Lunenburg & Kejimkujik NP

Sep 12, 2024 - We have 3 nights reserved at the Jeremy Bay Campground at Kejimkujik National Park.  Kejimkujik is “little ferry” in Mi’kmaq (the native people from this area). On the way there we took a quick detour and spent an hour and a half at the fishing town of Lunenburg on the south shore of Nova Scotia.  Lunenburg was designated as a UNESCO site in 1995 because it is considered the best example of a planned British Settlement in North America.

Another picturesque town

Cap’n Kev in high seas

Cute little wharf area

Gino & Mirabelle met a friend

The bay is like a lake

we caught a BIG lobster

The Lunenburg bump is an architectural feature of the town (an overhanging dormer usually over the door).

Nice bench, but I love the reflection in the window of the brightly colored houses across the street

this town has lots of color

Mirabelle was happy to walk around town

Lunenburg

along the main street they had lots of painted fish hanging above the sidewalk

crab door handle

pretty streets

I like THAT kind of topping

the public bathroom had tiles on the walls made by local students with Lunenburg houses painted on them

lunch at the dog park

It was a 1.5 hour drive to Keji from Lunenburg.  Some of the roads weren't great

Christmas tree farm

Site 218 in Jeremy’s Bay campground

the bathroom/shower house didn't look like what we're used to seeing on the road

Pretty nice looking bathroom/shower house

the view from our RV reminds me of the view we had at Two Jack campground in Banff…lots of trees

Another day another campfire

Keji is a designated dark sky area.  Kev and I headed to the star gazing circle, which has red lights leading to the circle.

red lights and a dark sky

the moon was out, so it wasn't the best for star gazing

Sep 13, 2024 - Today we're going to do some hiking around Keji.  The campground is close to the huge, beautiful Kejimkujik Lake, which has a nice hiking trail along it.

Since we're not headed out early this morning we decided to make breakfast.  We love our little waffle maker, perfect size for our RV

and Canadian maple syrup!

what a pretty lake, lots of islands and lots of fir trees

Keji Lake is great for kayaking/canoeing.  A lot of the islands have campsites on them

pretty bench with a view

even a beach for swimming

the star gazing circle during the day

No stars visible during the day

hammock time

appys with a campfire

we love hanging by the fire

Sep 14, 2024 - Another day to explore Kejimkujik!

Kev & I did an early morning hike along the lake

we found this bear in the campground!

We drove to the Visitor Center and hiked along the Mersy River

Mirabelle loves to drink from any water she finds on a walk

jumping Mirabelle

she's happy today!

hike to Mill Falls

The Mersy River

view to the falls

lunch along the Mersy River

nice reflections

After lunch we drove to the other end of the park to hike to Peter's Point.  It was a 2.5 mile round trip hike and a few miles on a gravel road.

Peter's Point

More cairns

we made it to the point

nice spot

another beach area
