Mar 1, 2025 - We went for a quick walk with Elaine, around the neighborhood, before starting on the packing. Packing always takes longer than expected, but we were done by 4:00 and will have a few hours in the morning before we pick up the U-Haul to finish with the last few things.
I love these flowers, Japanese Camelias. I see them a lot in Laguna
the packers, hard at work?
Last pantry box and of course a box labeled KSLP
break time
dinner?
Mar 2, 2025 - Today we picked up the 20 foot U-Haul that we're hoping fits everything from 477 Pearl St. The plan is to pack it all in the truck today and whatever doesn't fit, we'll pack into Todd's truck. Tomorrow morning, really early we'll drive the U-Haul to Los Osos. Actually Kev will drive the U-Haul, I'll drive the RV, and Todd his pick up truck. This way Elaine & Ian don't have to take off work and drive the 10 hours up and back to Los Osos in one day. We'll spend a few days with Todd at the house helping him with a few projects before he has to head back to Laguna.
checking out the truck before we rent it
When Elaine was a kid she loved U-Haul trucks. On our way to day care every day, whenever she saw a U-Haul (which was quite often because we drove the NJ Turnpike), she would say "there goes one of my favorite trucks!" She finally gets to see one up close.
Kev was the master at organizing the van
lunch break on the back porch
We're going to miss this cute little cottage Elaine & Ian have lived in for the last 3 years.

All packed up and looking forward to life in Los Osos!
Mar 3, 2025 - The drive from Laguna to Los Osos is usually about 4.5 hours, but if you hit traffic in LA, which you almost always do it can add time and frustration. So the best way to get through LA is to not drive through at rush hour. We decided to set our alarm for 3:00AM, and by the time we picked up the packed U-Haul, and stopped for gas, we were on the road at 3:45. There wasn't much traffic, but we certainly weren't the only ones on the road. After about 2 hours of white knuckle driving, on my part (I don't love driving Tiny through really big cities) I was thrilled to pass Santa Barbara and some easy cruising the final 2.5 hours to Los Osos. It took us about an hour to empty the truck, which didn't seem possible, since it took so long to fill up, but we were happy to have the afternoon to start on house projects.
the last few things from the truck
empty truck: happy movers
one reason it was so quick to unload, we moved everything to the family room since the rest of the house is still under some construction. Elaine and Ian will get to move it all from the family room, once all the dry wall work is done and they start their new jobs.
initial prep work for replacing the fogged up and leaking front window.
Mar 4, 2025 - Todd's coming over from the vineyard today to put in the front window. We'll be ready to help however we can.

Mar 5-7, 2025 - For the next few days we worked on smaller projects than the front window, and we made quite a few trips to Home Depot to get ready for upcoming projects.
Today was a rainy morning. Carlock's pastries brightened our day.
I always love the drive to San Luis Obispo along Los Osos Valley Rd, it's such a pretty drive, even in the rain.
Tiny loves Elaine & Ian's new house...the driveway is big and flat!
the plumber came to run the gas line for the new fireplace
the view from the living room of Morro Bay Rock never gets old
This morning we decided to break out the waffle iron.
Today we painted around the front window
Mar 8, 2025 - We woke up to another beautiful day in Los Osos, so we decided to walk to our favorite bakery, Caliwala which is only open on the weekends. After our walk Kev worked on caulking around the window and then we gave the siding a second coat. Next we worked on the back yard and then rode our bikes downtown for pizza and beer at Nardonne's
We worked on measuring the living room area, so Elaine can be deciding where furniture will go once all the projects are finally done
the famous Caliwala cinnamon rolls (we each got our own today)
a local artist made this owl, we see his work all over town
On our way home we stopped at the Audubon Overlook
