San Simeon State Park and Cambria/Cayucos

Sep 15, 2025 - We're headed back to Morro Bay SP for the week.  Ian's back to work this week, so we'll keep Elaine company while Ian's at work.

We're going to miss camping at the vineyard barn!

Nice spot to sit and read

Our drive over the mountain from the vineyard to Los Osos, and we can see the clouds stuck on the coast side of the mountain.

there's our girl

she's getting good at tummy time

two peas in a pod

TV and snuggles

Sep 18, 2025 - After hanging with Elaine and Marilyn we walked up to the Inn, that is just a half mile from the campground.  They have happy hour every afternoon from 3:30-5:00.

The baby burrito

See ya later Elaine!

                                                                            The deck at the Inn

Half price beers and appys with a view

Sep 19, 2025 - Today after our day with Elaine and Marilyn we're driving to San Simeon State Park for one night at the San Simeon Campground.  It's a 40 minute drive up the coast on the PCH.  Campsites are really hard to get in the California State Parks on the weekend and I was lucky enough to happen to find this site when I randomly looked a few days ago.

Kev hard at work on his latest program before we head to Elaine's

We made it to San Simeon SP and made BLT's and tots for dinner

Our campsite was in the top loop when first driving into the campground, and was very open and crowded.  On the weekends the campgrounds are especially crowded with lots of people on each site.

We were surrounded by tents on all sides...and they were so close!

Sep 20, 2025 - The next morning we got up early and went for a walk through the campground and under the highway to the San Simeon Beach.  The lower loop of the campground had much nicer campsites.  They weren't as packed in and there were trees to kind of separate the sites.  After packing up, we headed to Cambria (a 10 minute drive) for a walk through one of my favorite parks on the Central Coast, the Fiscalini Ranch and then another 15 minute drive to Cayucos for their 150 birthday celebration street fair.

A group of cormorants, drying out their wings

nice day at the beach

hmmmm

we had the beach to ourselves

that kelp looks like a dead sea creature

pretty foggy morning

cool tree

another cool tree, a twisted Cypress.

The Fiscalini bluff trail

It's similar to the Montana de Oro bluff trail, but a little more urban

They have LOTS of benches on the trail

Each one unique

a lot of them made from driftwood

this one's made from stone and they all have great views

We enjoyed the Cayucos street fair (friendly people, good beer and tacos and burgers...what a combo)

and then headed to the Cayucos pier

On the drive back 3 stacks and a rock

Sep 21, 2025 - We spent last night in Elaine and Ian's driveway and then for our last week we're back at Morro Bay SP.

Marilyn came to visit in the driveway this morning.  I think she wants to go camping!

bathtime

after an afternoon with Elaine and Ian (after setting up at Morro Bay SP) we rode our bikes to downtown Morro Bay

and had a beer at Three Stacks and a Rock Brewery

Site 77

We decided to have a fire after dinner

Sep 23, 2025 - It's our 36th anniversary and after a fun day with Elaine and Marilyn we went to The Dutchman's in Morro Bay.  Neighbors at our campground told us how much they liked "Dutchies" and what great seafood they had so we decided to try it out.

there is of course a view of the rock

does it ever get old?

Kev got their famous cioppino which had lobster tail, prawns, mussels, calamari and clams.  I had fish and chips.  Both were so good, we will definitely be back!

Sep 24, 2025 - Today's a good day for a walk on the trail and a trip to SLO to the Madonna Inn.  We keep seeing the quirky looking Inn when we're in SLO and Laurie told us that it's an iconic place for pink champagne cake, so we need to check it out!

the gang out for a walk

Marilyn loves to sleep on our walks

Kev's good at pushing the stroller

Marilyn and her new friend from Aunt Meg.  What's his name going to be? B?  BB? or BBB?

through the garden to get into the Madonna Inn

Wow!  That's a lot of pink

the bar is pink also

really big fireplace

and here's the cake!

notice the Madonna Inn goblets (I guess they're iconic too)

Kev's always happy to have some cake

Each of the rooms at the Madonna Inn are decorated differently and in the gift shop they have a postcard of each room (this picture is only half of the postcards)

"Let's eat and be forever happy"  Seems like a good motto to me!

That's what an entire pink champagne cake looks like

Sep 26, 2025 - Today is our last day in Los Osos before heading back to Indy.

We drive by the Osos Bear every day on our way into Los Osos.  He gets decorated for holidays and a few weeks ago was dressed as a firefighter in honor of the local firefighters that were fighting fires in the area.

Marilyn is ready for a walk

My favorite view

Kev was holding Marilyn during a blow out

Marilyn in her going home from the hospital outfit that she was way too small to fit into when she left the hospital

love the funny hat

she's getting so big

For our last evening the 5 of us went to High St Deli for their happy hour

And Marilyn got to go into the VW for the first time

And I'm sure she'll spend lots of time in the VW over the next 10 years like all the other Los Osos kids

Bye Greene's!  See you in a month!

Sep 27, 2025 - We left at 5:30 AM for our first day of driving and we'll stop in 14 hours in Albuquerque.

here comes the sun

That's a lot of clouds

In 1000 miles turn right

looks like some weather ahead

that's a big sun!

We got lots of rain on the drive

Sep 28-29, 2025 - We'll drive 14.5 hours today and make it to St Clair, MO, for the night at a rest area.  Then on Monday we'll just have a quick 4 hour drive.

Sun's coming up

There's the Arch...we'll be home soon!
