Kev n Jens Adventures: 2026-01-18

January 4-10, 2026 - The Los Osos weather has been amazing this month with temps in the high 60's and low 70's. Kevin is enjoying every sport outdoors that he can get his hands on and Marilyn and I have been enjoying walks on the Morro Trail down the street.

January 10-11 2026 - It's the weekend and we're headed to Los Osos Oaks State Natural Preserve, which is just outside of Los Osos on Los Osos Valley Road. We pass this small park all the time on our way to San Luis Obispo, so we thought we should check it out. Sunday's agenda is a bike ride around Los Osos.

We made it to the back part of the park with pretty views of the volcanic plugs in the distance

And there is Hollister in the distance. This trail took us to a neighborhood and then we had trouble finding the main trail to get us back to the parking lot. We spent about 15 minutes "lost" trying to find the trail, but we eventually figured it out. I'd say they need some better trail signage that corresponds to the trail map!

I found this info in my Google photos. It's a map showing where my 41,000 photos have been taken! Looks like we're missing the area around Washington State and North/South Carolina (and also central and eastern Canada). Guess I better start planning some trips!

We locked up our bikes in front of the convenience store before walking across the street to Merrimakers for a beer while we watch the Eagles/Niners game (we're not going to let on that we're really Eagles fans, since this place is overrun with SF fans!)

Jan 12-16, 2026 - It was a fun week at "work". Middle Management (Marilyn) was happy we put in an work order for a new swing. And Kevin got a little overtime work on some benches he made from the deck that the CEOs (Elaine & Ian) no longer want.

Jan 16-18, 2026 - Tod & Laurie are at the vineyard for a few days, so Kev, Marilyn and I drove over to hang with them for the afternoon and then we all met E&I at Marin's Tasting Room in Atascadero. Saturday I'm going with Kevin to his riding lesson in Paso Robles. It's his 3rd lesson with Patty and he has been loving it. I'm so excited to see what the stables are like and to watch his lesson.

It's Friday!

January 17-19, 2026 - It's a 45 minute drive to Patty's stables in Paso Robles. Kevin's horse Bear is the horse he gets each time he takes a lesson. He gets Bear saddled up and then works on his own in the arena until Patty comes to work with him. They are working on signalling properly so Bear knows what to do. They go through different courses to practice. They work on going through a gate, opening and closing it from the horse. They work on going backwards, trotting and cantering. Kevin loves it!
