October 25-26, 2025 - We're headed back to California for a 6 month stay, so we can take care of Marilyn when Elaine goes back to work next week. It's our first road trip in the new Pathfinder, so we'll see how it does on a big trip. We're not in a hurry since I have a bad cold and don't want to get there too early and end up giving it to the Greene's. Tonight we're staying in Stroud, OK, a 10.5 hour drive and then another 10.5 hour drive to Gallup, NM tomorrow.
We hit some rain in Texas and it was funny to just see the bottom of the wind turbines because of the clouds
the weather cleared up
lots of wind turbines in Texas
We always see this tilted water tower when we're driving through
I finally decided to get a pic of it
lunch in the car is not nearly as convenient as in Tiny
but we're making it work
October 26, 2025 - From Gallup it's only 6.5 hours to Las Vegas. We're staying at the Paris Resort and Kev's going to play some poker.
We're packed for 6 months in Cali and we finally have some room to take a few things to Elaine
It's a pretty morning
And we've got some mountains coming up
The Pathfinder is looking good
pretty mountains
We crossed into Nevada on the Hoover Dam Bridge
There's Las Vegas in the distance
Paris!
Lunch at a cafe in the resort
October 27, 2025 - Today we're going to explore Death Valley National Park. I've booked a cabin on the far side of the park where we'll stay tonight. It's only a 2.5 hr drive to the park and then we'll spend the afternoon checking it out before driving to Panamint Springs Resort for the night.
Joshua Trees
Badwater Basin visible from Dante's View
The Basin is covered with a white salt flat that goes on for miles
Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level.
I loved this mountain in the distance with stripes that are vertical instead of horizontal
Death Valley is officially the hottest place on Earth with a recorded temperature of 134 degrees. Today the weather was pretty nice in the low 80's but I'm not sure I would want to be here in the Summer.
Pretty contrasts
Zabriskie Point
Death Valley is the driest place in the US with an average rainfall of less than 2 inches/year. Some years they don't get any rain
Looks a bit like the Badlands
Devil's Cornfield (a field of arrow weed that looks like a cornfield)
Our first gravel road in the Pathfinder
Back on a paved road
that road sure goes off into the distance
Death Valley is a dusty place!
Our cabin for the night, with a view of the mountains from our porch
we walked across the street for dinner at the Panamint Restaurant
Pretty sunset (and we enjoyed dinner)
October 28, 2025 - It's a 5.5 hour drive from Panamint Springs Resort to Los Osos. We woke up early (since we haven't been on Pacific time for very long) and decided to start an early drive to Elaine's
Pretty sunrise over the mountains
sunrise is getting closer
pretty mountains with some peaks with snow on them
pretty pink/blue sky over the mountain
I love a peak that gets the first sunlight on it
Kev found an interesting side road, so he could see how the Pathfinder does in the sand
We didn't get stuck
so I guess it was a win
the yellow flowers along the road are so pretty
More Joshua Trees and Wind Turbines
We made it to Marilyn's just in time for tummy time
Kevin tends to focus Marilyn's attention to the picture of the sailboat
She's gotten so big!
Passion Fruit
we love a morning walk
and sunsets in Osos are pretty special
Views of Marilyn and Morro Rock
Good night!
October 29, 2025 - We're happy to hang out with Elaine and Marilyn for the week.
Who's looking over my shoulder?
sleepy girl
SOOOOO sleepy
Costco for lunch
and it's 80 in Osos today, so we need a summery outfit
We moved into our Airbnb today. Looks like it's going to be perfect!
huge walk in closet
nice little kitchen
Pho for dinner
and a nice gas fireplace to take the chill off
October 30, 2025 - Today we're running errands in San Luis Obispo and checking out SLO Ranch for lunch.
Mooo! Maybe the cow costume is just a little too big for this year's Halloween
Someone missed Mom while she was in the store (a wee bit wicked? I don't think so!)
SLO Ranch
Marilyn was happy to hold the pumpkin herself
and she liked holding the gourd too
she wanted to sit on the back of the pick-up
and Kevin wanted to swing
lunch and a beer
great lunch at the Paso Robles Brewery
Pincushion
October 31, 2025 - Happy Halloween!
Marilyn is a skeleton today!
But I also had to at least get a pic of her in Elaine's pumpkin outfit that I made for her first Halloween
It's a little big, but fun to see her looking like Elaine 32 years ago
best way to get sleepy girls to sleep when they don't want to go to sleep
we've got a horse as a neighbor at our Airbnb
We sat in the driveway with Robin and Steve (our Airbnb hosts) and gave out candy to LOTS of kids
and we had a nice bonfire
