Apr 11, 2025 - We're headed to NYC! Maddy's sister Ellie offered up her apartment to us, while they're out of town for a week. So we get a whole week in the city only 10 blocks from Meg & Maddy. Needless to say I have lots of plans for the week!
We flew into Newark and took NJ transit into the city. I don't remember ever seeing this entrance to the subway.
I'm going to enjoy this view all week. That's the San Remo in the distance and the magnolias are just about peak.
It's a rainy day but even a rainy day in the city is amazing.
Hmmm...this building looks really crooked. (the picture didn't do the crookedness justice)
I got us free tickets to the Morgan library. Friday nights are free, and they have jazz in the courtyard. We enjoyed an exhibit on Bella da Costa Greene who was the Morgan librarian for 43 years amassing one of the most important collections of rare books in the country.
This is the famous East Room, which houses Pierpont Morgan's rare book collection.
Gutenberg Bible, which is one of 3 that the library owns (there are 49 still in existence out of 158 printed). The Gutenberg Bible was the first major book printed using movable type, printed in the 1450s.
Beautiful ceiling of the East Room
We had dinner at Clinton Hall which is known for their grilled cheese donut sandwich, which was actually quite good.
April 12, 2025 - It was another rainy day in the city, so we chilled with Meg & Maddy for most of the day before walking to the Lincoln Center TKTS to see what Broadway tickets we could find for the evening performance.
Spring on W 85th St
$12 for tulips
Wingspan!
Beers at Amsterdam Ale House
and really good appys - a pretzel and tornado tots
A nice walk in the rain
quick photo op at Lincoln Center
Success! Half price tickets for The Last Five Years (6th row seats!) with Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren.
more flowers (it's hard for me to pass these flower stands without taking a pic)
and nothing is nicer than orderly fruit
I know you!
The Hudson Theater
Great seats!
April 13, 2025 - The rain has moved on, so we're taking advantage of the nice weather and heading to the Cloisters for the afternoon.
It was a nice walk from the subway station up the hill to the Cloisters through Fort Tryon Park
The Cloisters is part of the Metropolitan and is dedicated to art from the Middle Ages
The Cloisters building was designed to evoke the architecture of the late Middle Ages.
The Cloisters has a large collection of medieval tapestries
This is a really big candlestick (and quite ornate)
The famous tapestry "The Unicorn Rests in a Garden" It is one of seven that depict the hunt of the unicorn.
A cloister is defined as a covered walkway that surrounds a large open courtyard and provides access to other monastic buildings
One of three cloister gardens
lots of photo ops
wiggly columns
pretty archways
Chilly view of the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge in the distance
smaller garden
what's out there?
Lots of daffodils!
Beers and appys at Tryon Public House
And a quick trip to Trader Joe's

Maddy's cooking dinner and it smells great!
