Last Day on the Canal and Next Stop the Cotswolds

June 15, 2025 - Today we're headed back to Trevor.  We will moor overnight just 30 minutes from Anglo Welsh so we can drop off the boat when they open Monday morning at 8:30.  We have 2 locks to go through, 2 tunnels and one Aquaduct to go over.  Once we drop off the boat we will get a cab to the Ruabon train station take a  2.5 hr train to Cardiff, switch trains and get off in an hour and a half in Swindon.  From there a cab to pick up the rental car and then an hour and a half to Chipping Campden.  We have an Airbnb there for the next 4 nights while we explore the Cotswolds.

The field next to us was full of cows when we woke up this morning

I liked these 4 cows eating in concert

We're coming to our first lock

We'll have to wait a bit.  This guy is going through first, then we'll wait til the boat at the top comes down.

Jeanene and I have the gates ready

Jim motored into the lock

We closed the gates at the low end and opened the paddles on the top gate to let the water in from above

the boat is floating up with the added water

the gates are opened and Jim motors out

Here's a time-lapse video of us going through the lock (1 minute)

pretty field

we're at the next lock

pretty garden at the lock keepers house (which is now privately owned)

Kev's walking the dog

We bought some marmalade for sale on the fence at the lock (an older couple live in the lock keepers house and came out to chat with people moving through the lock and sell marmalade!)

why not another bridge picture?

It looks like this car is being taken on a wild Google goose chase (driving on the canal path)

Chirck Aquaduct and viaduct

pretty view from the top

Welcome to Wales!

After crossing the viaduct we waited here for a boat that was coming through the REALLY long tunnel.  When you're getting ready to enter the tunnel you turn on the front light so you can be seen from the other side and blow the horn.

We're parking here for the night and will walk into Trevor across the Aquaduct for a pint

Pretty view from the aquaduct

It's a bit scary up here

Now we have to walk back over the aquaduct

Taco Sunday!

June 16, 2025 - We're up early, packed and ready to drop off our boat!  Then we take a train to Swindon where we will rent a car so we can explore the Cotswolds.

Lots of full-timers parked along this part of the canal

a bit skinny here!

It's quiet on the aquaduct.  What a great week on the boat!

A 12 minute summary of our week (the first 2.5 minutes is the boat tour, and the rest is time-lapse video of cruising, a winding hole and locks)

Kev's ready for his travel day with a book

clocktower on the train ride

a view of our luggage on the rack above us!

Cardiff waiting for the next train

our car is too small or we have too much luggage
