Bishop Peak Hike and Christmas Tree Lighting in Osos

Dec 6, 2025 - It's the weekend!  We decided to walk to Sylvesters for lunch.  And this evening is the Los Osos Christmas Tree Lighting.

A bench under a shrub arch that I found on our walk

the Old Fashioned with cheese (1/2 pounder).  Hopefully next time we remember that we need to share this burger.

Lisa's out on her e-bike and Romeo's chasing her

Romeo loves to run!

The Osos Christmas Tree is a little puny

But so cool to have a tree on the pier (with the cow)

We met up with the Greene's at High St. and Marilyn is dressed for the holidays

family photo

Santa showed up (with his sunglasses on of course)

We got in the group photo

here's a close-up

After the tree lighting we headed to the Merrimaker for a beer (they've got a pretty nice tree)

And our lights were on when we got home

Dec 7, 2025 - It's Sunday morning and we're trying to get as many hikes in as we can  on the weekends, so today it's the big one...Bishop Peak.  It's the tallest of the "Morros" or the Nine Sisters which is a collection of Volcanic plugs in San Luis Obispo County.  There are actually 23 plugs total, but the Nine Sisters are named since they are the most distinct.   All but 2 of the plugs are in a straight line.  The Nine Sisters are as follows:  Morro Rock, Black Hill, Cerro Cabrillo, Hollister, Cerro Romauldo, Chumash Peak, Bishop Peak, Cerro San Luis Obispo and Islay Hill.  I guess we'll need to hike all that we can.  I haven't looked them all up, but I do know that Hollister is privately owned, so we won't be able to hike it.

We drove to the Highland Dr trailhead.

Our first view of the peak from the trail

It's supposed to be an intermediate/advanced hike and we decided if it was too tough for us, we'd turn around if we got uncomfortable.  The hike is about 1000 ft elevation and 4 miles round trip.  The map said it should take about 2-3 hours.

We're getting a bit higher, with some nice views

San Luis Obispo in the distance

first selfie of the day

we're out of the woods

Laguna Lake in the distance

we're getting close

pretty view but not quite the top

the bench says "end of trail"

it was a nice spot to sit for a bit

did we save enough to get down?

time for a quick snack before heading down

And a view from the other side.  It was a great hike, probably at the edge of our abilities, but so glad we did it.  It took us right around 3 hours to complete.

Dec 8 - 12, 2025 - It was another fun week with Marilyn!

Elaine put together a nice toy box for us and we had fun with these bug socks.  Marilyn wasn't quite sure what to think of those noisy things on her feet!

she couldn't stop looking at them

they made her giggle

the pink morning sun on Morro Rock from the living room

Marilyn's ready for our morning walk!

Today was a hot day, and we ended up at our apartment for the afternoon

"those bugs on my feet are so weird"

how did you get upside down?

who is that in the mirror?

Marilyn loves her "friends"

it's time for someone to take a nap!
