Family Visits and the Olympic Trials

Memorial Day Weekend 2024 -  Ann & Erich came for a visit.  We did a pub stroll, went to the Broad Ripple Farmer's Market, walked the trail and played lots of games

We'll have one beer of each color please

May 30 - June 4, 2024 - Next we're off for a visit with Mom.  Ann & Erich met us there for part of the time, which was nice.  We celebrated Mother's Day and Mom's 89th birthday, went to Sandy Springs Brewery in Minerva and of course played lots of games.

And dinner out at Texas Roadhouse

June 8 - 12, 2024 -  Next it was a trip to Sullivan for some fishing!

June 20, 2024 - The Swimming Olympic Trials are being held in Indy, at Lucas Oil Stadium.  I bought tickets months ago and randomly picked a day during the week of the trials and it looks like it's a great day for a bike ride.  It's a bit hot, but we love to be able to ride downtown. The morning session is from 11-1, so we hit the trail at about 9:45 and got there right at 11.  It was amazing to see the 10 lane pool that had been built in the middle of the Colts Stadium.  The Convention Center and Georgia St were both open, so we spent the afternoon wandering around downtown.

It's a 9 mile bike ride to Lucas Oil from our house

Water break

The stadium is decked out with swimming banners

Crazy pool, looks like it's always been there.  We got to watch the Women's 200 back, the Men's 50 free and Men's 200 IM.

All lanes lead to Indy

Who knew Indy had a 60 foot Eiffel Tower?

US flag made of lane lines

June 25 - 27, 2024 -  We ended the busy month of June with a trip to Ann & Erich's.  We had fun at Jungle Jim's, Costco and blueberry picking

We're Home But We're Not at Home

April 12-16, 2024 - We've been home from Florida for 2 weeks and so it's time to visit Missouri and Ohio.  This weekend we're headed to St. Clair and we're hoping we can do some fishing while we're there.

The Shabin is ready for Summer camping

A game of cribbage before bed

Some computer time

We drove with Bob over to the old Woodcock property off of Lolar Branch Rd.  Pretty cool old cabin and old piece of farm equipment

Then down to the Bourbeuse for lunch on the river bank.

It's been raining a lot so the river is high.  Hopefully we can get out on the river in a day or two for some fishing.

We made it out on the river, with some extra paddling to get us through the ripples.

great day on the river

we stopped by the steps up to the old clubhouse

since there aren't many leaves on the trees, we could see what little is left of the clubhouse

lunch in the boat today

Bob got the first catch of the day

Kevin also caught a fish, but this one was later in the evening, when he went out fishing with Chuck from the river bank.

April 18 - 23, 2024 - Next we headed to Mom's to visit with her.  We drove to Hanoverton one evening for dinner at the Spread Eagle Tavern.

Mom got a pot pie, I had a burger

Kevin got the Chicken Wellington

the tulips are out

April 27-30 2024 - We booked a campsite at Lake Monroe for some camping with the Baumgardners.  It looked like it was going to rain all weekend but we decided we'd go camping anyway.  Luckily we didn't listen to the weather forecast, because it was a beautiful weekend.  We did get some rain Monday evening, but that was it!  We took the tandem kayak for some fishing and spent a lot of time around the campfire.

Tiny is in the shop for an awning recall.  We had to pull out all our old camping equipment for the weekend and we slept in the minivan like we used to pre-RV.  We had a great time, but sure did miss Tiny.

Kev loves his log splitter

burgers over the campfire

ice cream from the camp store, with a view from the rental pontoons

Ann & Kev by the fire

happy campers

we had to dry out a bit before we headed home on Tuesday

Erich and I went out on the lake for some fishing

just fishing, no catching

but it was a pretty day to be on the water

May 1, 2024 - Today we uncovered the sailboat and put up the mast.  We're ready to put our new sailing skills to good use!

May 4, 2024 - It's Derby Day, so we decided to head to the Indiana Grand for some horse racing.

We had lunch while we bet on a few races

I bet on "Yay Hooray" to win the first race and he did!  I won $17.80!  Unfortunately my next 4 bets didn't pan out as well.

After lunch we went outside to watch the races

Kev's got some hot tips

Checking out the horses to help out with our picks

we're ready

nice day to be at the races

Double congrats!

May 5, 2024 - It was a beautiful walk to the grocery store today!  Spring has sprung!

Marrott Park is full of purple flowers

The Poppy's next to Public Greens are amazing!

Love the rainbow bridge

more purple flowers on College Ave

The Public Greens garden is looking good

I went back to the grocery store with my bike, so I could have the first watermelon of the season (it wasn't great, but I'm happy it's finally watermelon season!)

Corn, watermelon and steak on the grill.  Yum!

Irises!
