Baby Beach and Ho'okipa Beach

Jan 16, 2025 - Today we're headed back to our first AirBnB in Paia to meet up with Janet and Bob.  Before heading out of Hana we went down to the local beach (Hana Bay Beach) for a quick walk then we drove the Hana Highway back.  Kev thought he was a local, since we'd been in Hana for 3 days, so it was a relatively quick drive back to civilization.

We had breakfast on the porch in the rain

Hana Bay Beach, all the rain gave us our first Hawaiian rainbow of the trip.

The locals have a "canoe club".  There were 3 outriggers on the beach ready for use by the members.

why did the chicken(s) cross the road?

We stopped at the Hana Farms so Kev could get some good coffee.  We sat with a couple (our age-ish) who own the Hana Gold Cacao Plantation next door.  It was interesting to chat with them and hear about life on Maui.

There is a yellow center line on the road!  (and pretty mountains)

We dropped off our rental car at the airport and Janet & Bob picked us up and we were on the beach in no time!

The views were amazing!

The beach is called Baby Beach because of a barrier reef wall that provides an area protected from the waves.  Kev was ready to get in for his first snorkel

This red "sand" reminds me of PEI beaches

This driftwood looks like a moose head (he's got a really long nose)

Janet and I walked down to Baldwin Beach from Baby Beach

Janet & Jen!

Haleakela behind the clouds.  We're headed there for the sunrise on Saturday.

After the beach we tried out the outside shower at our AirBnB.

We stopped at Ho'okipa Beach for the sunset.  It was full of surfers.

AND Green turtles!!! (those aren't rocks!)

Janet says there are always turtles at this beach

We counted over 30 turtles

surfers

I took A LOT of photos, the sky just seemed to be constantly changing

A little bit of an obstructed sunset, but so pretty!

After the sunset, it was a quick drive into the cute little town of Paia for dinner at the Paia Fish Market.  It had a line out the door, but was worth the 30 minute wait!
